SO WHY USE MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION?

Medical Illustration is a great way to tell the story of your science in a versatile and professional manner. The medium is ideal for communicating complex biological processes, anatomical procedures or technological concepts. There are many types of Science Illustration depending on the end use.

The type of artwork created for science journal figure which will typically be very diagrammatic will differ greatly from the artwork created for the cover of a high profile journal or magazine publication. Luckily enough we have great experience with both.

WHAT WE DO... BEYOND THE PIXELS

As with every piece of art the starting point is always inspiration. Your science is exactly that. Before we can communicate we first need to understand. We begin by researching the science and working closely with you so we can gain a deep understanding of your needs and the scientific message we need to communicate.

We usually begin with concept sketches and simple composition mock ups and develop the illustration exactly to requirements using a staged development process. We then use a perfect mix of digital artistry, technical graphic techniques and experience to create the perfect image for your needs.

CREATING A MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION

The process in creating a Medical Illustration begins with scoping and researching. We develop a deep understanding of the science and what needs to be communicated. The next stage is the beginning of the creative process. We take the knowledge gained during the scoping process and begin to layout the overall composition and develop the 3D models we needed to create the illustration.

PRE-PRODUCTION

  • Schedule Planning
  • Referencing
  • Scoping
  • Concepting
  • R&D

Pre-production: This is where lay the foundations of the illustration. We scope, research and reference the subject matter to gain a deep understanding of the science. Using this knowledge we move onto the design stage.

FULL-PRODUCTION

  • 3D Modeling
  • Lighting
  • Texturing
  • Look & Feel
  • Test Drafts

Full-production: We begin by blocking in the design and composition usually with sketches or simplistic 3d models.Once this is complete we begin developing the 3D models and visual style. We then output the renders used for the final artwork.

POST-PRODUCTION

  • Compositing
  • Special Effects
  • Labels
  • Review & Sign-off
  • Deliverables

Post-production: In the final stages we bring together all of the outputs and composite them into the final finished artwork adding in labels if required.
